The World Bank has approved $300 million in financing to improve living conditions for up to 7.4 million Nigerians in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and host communities across Northern Nigeria.
Announced on August 7, 2025, the funding will strengthen resilience in conflict-affected areas by expanding access to essential services, improving livelihoods, and developing basic infrastructure.
World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Mathew Verghis, described the initiative as a critical step toward tackling the development challenges caused by prolonged displacement, noting its potential to create sustainable solutions.
The programme will also focus on enhancing social services, boosting economic opportunities, and reducing the pressure on host communities struggling with limited resources.
For affected regions, this marks a major opportunity to rebuild communities, foster long-term recovery, and raise living standards for millions facing hardship.
