The Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has commenced the second phase of its Mega Agricultural Empowerment Programme, beginning with the distribution of critical inputs and equipment to local governments across the state.
This rollout, acting on the directive of Governor Mai Mala Buni, ensures that all agricultural items are provided free of charge to farmers in a bid to boost productivity and enhance food security.
According to an official memo, Yusufari Local Government Area has already received its consignment, which includes:
- 2,500 bags of fertiliser
- 600 units of grains
- 50 power tillers
- 500 bundles of cassava stem
- 22 threshers
- 50 planters
- 36 fertiliser spreaders
- 20 units of agrochemicals
These inputs are currently under the custody of the Local Government Chairman pending further distribution arrangements to ensure effective and equitable delivery to farmers.
The initiative is part of Governor Buni’s broader strategy to support smallholder farmers and position Yobe as a food-secure state, especially in the face of rising agricultural demands and economic challenges.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Ali Mustapha Goniri, confirmed that all 17 local government areas will receive their allocations in phases.
“This second phase demonstrates our commitment to leave no farmer behind,” Goniri said. “We’re focused on empowering our grassroots communities to achieve food sufficiency through accessible inputs and modern equipment.”
With this renewed push, the Yobe State Government aims to revitalize rural agriculture, support livelihoods, and strengthen the local economy through sustained investment in the farming sector.
