In a remarkable act of corporate social responsibility, the Mainstream Foundation, in collaboration with Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), has transformed lives across Yola metropolis through a free medical outreach focused on eye health.
The initiative provided free eye surgeries, medications, and consultancy services to residents who had long endured vision problems but were unable to afford treatment. For many, the programme was nothing short of life changing.
Zayyanu Illo, Programme Manager at Mainstream Foundation, explained that the outreach is part of their ongoing health interventions under Quest Electricity, a subsidiary of Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL). “We felt it was time to bring this support to Yola metropolis with our team of specialized doctors, ensuring people here also benefit from quality healthcare,” he said.
The impact was evident in the joy of beneficiaries. Aisha Umar, a grandmother who received surgery, expressed her delight: “I had almost lost hope of ever seeing clearly again, but thanks to this programme, I can now see my grandchildren’s smiles.”
Beyond restoring sight, the outreach rekindled hope, strengthened community spirit, and highlighted how private sector partnerships can drive meaningful change. With dozens of successful surgeries and treatments carried out, the programme left a lasting mark not only on the lives of individuals but also on the wider community.
As residents returned home with renewed vision and optimism, the initiative stood as a shining example of compassion in action showing that when businesses extend a hand of care, entire communities rise.
