The Ikorodu District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has inaugurated Samuel Ayeni as its 12th chairman, reaffirming the institute’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, ethics, and excellence.
Speaking at the investiture ceremony, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Kareem Adegoke, described the occasion as more than a leadership transition, calling it a reaffirmation of ICAN’s values of integrity and service.
In his inaugural address, Ayeni pledged to safeguard the integrity of ICAN’s examinations, which he noted remain a benchmark for other institutions. He also promised to expand candidate participation at the Ikorodu centre without compromising the institute’s renowned standards.
“ICAN has been a beacon of excellence, a standard-bearer of ethics, and a bridge to global practices,” Ayeni said. “The baton of leadership handed to me is a challenge to move the district and by extension, the institute to greater heights over the next 12 months.”
Ayeni further outlined plans to:
Collaborate with learning centres to support student success.
Strengthen corporate partnerships through visitations and strategic engagements.
Promote proper record-keeping among members.
Embrace technology to drive innovation and relevance.
In his goodwill message, the ICAN President underscored the institute’s role in advancing financial transparency and accountability, highlighting the ICAN Accountability Index as a key tool for monitoring public finance management in Nigeria.
Vice Chairman Adegoke revealed that new training programmes on record keeping, social responsibility, and stakeholder engagement were already in motion, while Deputy Vice Chairman Ayinde Samuel commended ICAN’s responsiveness to global and local economic shifts, particularly its active role in tax reforms.
