Chevron Nigeria Limited has been honoured for its long-standing commitment to community development and partnerships that improve lives in the Niger Delta.
The recognition came at the Niger Delta Night of Honour, organised by Gbaramatu Voice International to mark its 10th anniversary in Abuja, where Chevron received the Community Partnership Award for its role in driving socio-economic progress in host communities.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Gbaramatu Voice International, Prof. Tosan Blessing Harriman, praised Chevron for fostering collaborations that empower local communities and advance sustainable development.
Receiving the award on behalf of Chevron, Victor Anyaegbudike, Manager of Communications (Nigeria & Mid-Africa Region), reaffirmed the company’s belief that society’s progress is inseparable from business success.
“We recognise that when our host communities thrive, we thrive. For over 60 years in Nigeria, Chevron has invested in people, opportunities, and initiatives that deliver long-term benefits,” he said.
Anyaegbudike highlighted Chevron’s flagship community-driven projects such as the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU), the Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs) under the Petroleum Industry Act, and the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) all designed to support education, healthcare, livelihoods, and infrastructure.
He also acknowledged the role of the media in shaping development conversations, noting Chevron’s investment in journalist training programmes to strengthen public understanding of the oil and gas sector and amplify community voices.
“By working together with communities, the media, and stakeholders, we are helping build a Niger Delta that is not just resource-rich, but opportunity-rich,” he added.
