In a major boost for Nigeria’s food security, Leadway Assurance has partnered with the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU), PULA Foundation, and state governments to deliver climate-smart insurance solutions to 249,000 smallholder farmers in eight states.
The programme reduces farmers’ exposure to devastating climate risks by covering insurance premiums through a joint model of state subsidies and donor financing. Farmers in Borno, Enugu, Taraba, Ekiti, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Jigawa will benefit from this groundbreaking support.
“With this initiative, we are not just providing insurance, we are empowering farmers to thrive in the face of climate change,” said Gboyega Lesi, Managing Director of Leadway Assurance. “Our goal is to protect livelihoods, enhance resilience, and safeguard Nigeria’s food systems.”
The initiative will be amplified through the Harvesting Hope Caravan, a nationwide roadshow aimed at equipping farmers with practical knowledge, innovative solutions, and stronger resilience strategies.
