The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) has called on regulators, institutions, and industry players to raise governance standards across all sectors as the nation navigates an era of disruption and heightened accountability.
According to SCGN, stronger ethical governance is critical to advancing fiscal reforms, strengthening compliance with the National Code of Corporate Governance, and equipping businesses to withstand global uncertainties. The organisation emphasised that conversations on ethics, sustainability, and resilience must take center stage as institutions worldwide grapple with challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and shifting economic models.
To drive this agenda, SCGN announced its 20th Anniversary Corporate Governance Conference, scheduled for October 9, 2025, in Lagos. Themed “Strengthening Ethical Governance in a Disrupted World: Reflections on the Governance Journey for a Sustainable Future,” the event will convene regulators, board leaders, and corporate experts to chart strategies for building resilient, future-ready institutions.
Keynote speaker Dr. Omobola Johnson, former Minister of Communication Technology, will address ethical leadership in a disrupted environment. She will be joined by top leaders including SEC Nigeria’s Director-General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama; NGX Group’s GMD/CEO, Temi Popoola; and FRCN’s Executive Secretary/CEO, Dr. Rabiu Olowo. Discussions will span fiscal reforms, board effectiveness, cross-border practices, and the role of governance in national economic revitalisation.
SCGN President, Mr. Muhammad Ahmad, said the anniversary conference would provide a platform for thought leaders to set the tone for the next phase of governance in Nigeria. “We are bringing together some of the finest minds to strengthen trust, inspire future leaders, and embed sustainability in boardroom strategies. Conversations will extend to global shifts such as artificial intelligence, ESG priorities, and the disruptive trends reshaping businesses worldwide
