Startups and scale ups using technology to transform agriculture and the food system can now apply for the 2026 FoodTech 500, a global platform recognizing companies working at the intersection of food, technology and sustainability.
The eighth edition of the FoodTech 500, organized by Forward Fooding, is open to AgriFoodTech companies across the world, including early-stage and more established businesses operating across the food supply chain. Applications close on November 15, 2026, at 23:59 CET.
The FoodTech 500 has received more than 11,700 applications since 2019 and has showcased more than 2,500 AgriFoodTech startups and scale ups from more than 95 countries.
Who Can Apply?
The opportunity is open to incorporated startups and scale ups that:
- Have an active company website
- Were established less than 15 years ago
- Are developing technology-driven solutions within the AgriFoodTech sector
Eligible companies can be at different stages of development, from early-stage ventures to more established businesses.
What Areas Are Covered?
The 2026 FoodTech 500 is open to companies developing solutions across different parts of the food system.
These include:
- Precision farming
- Agricultural biotechnology
- Irrigation and water technology
- Vertical farming
- Food processing innovation
- Food safety and traceability
- Food waste and surplus management
- Packaging and materials
- Alternative proteins
- Nutrition and functional foods
- Circular economy solutions
- Kitchen robotics
- Bio-engineered ingredients
- Restaurant technology
Other technology-driven solutions improving the efficiency and sustainability of the food system may also be considered.
What Do Selected Companies Get?
Companies selected for the FoodTech 500 can gain global visibility through the official FoodTech 500 platform and annual White Paper, alongside press and editorial exposure.
They will also join a network of more than 22,000 AgriFoodTech professionals, including investors, food and beverage companies, founders and potential strategic collaborators.
The platform also provides opportunities for companies to connect with organisations that can support business development, partnerships and expansion into new markets.
How Will Companies Be Assessed?
For the 2026 edition, Forward Fooding says applications will be assessed across three main areas: business viability, innovation and differentiation, and sustainability.
The assessment places emphasis on evidence of commercial traction, including customers, pilots, deployments and market reach. Innovation will consider how differentiated and defensible a company’s technology or solution is, while the sustainability assessment looks at its contribution to a more sustainable and inclusive food system.
Applicants should therefore ensure that their company information, website and supporting materials clearly reflect their current progress and impact.
Previous FoodTech 500 companies must also submit a new application for the 2026 edition so that their current business performance and progress can be assessed.
Application Deadline
Applications for the 2026 FoodTech 500 close on November 15, 2026, at 23:59 CET. Forward Fooding also notes that it reserves the right to close applications earlier if submission volumes are high.
The official announcement and White Paper for the 2026 edition are expected in the first quarter of 2027.
