LG Electronics has commissioned a solar-powered borehole system and a mobile laundry cabin in Abeokuta, Ogun State, delivering not just clean water and laundry services but also substantial economic relief to residents.
Speaking at the commissioning, Choongbae Seok, General Manager of Media Solutions, TV Division, LG Electronics West Africa, said the initiative blends innovation with social impact. “This project is about more than water and laundry, it is about dignity, well-being, and hope. By harnessing renewable energy to serve daily community needs, we are easing household burdens and setting a new benchmark for sustainable impact in Ogun State,” he said.
Representing the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, Mr. Kolawole Agemo, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Housing, applauded the project, noting that it underscores how private sector partnerships can cut costs for households while driving sustainable development.
Community leaders hailed the intervention as life-changing. The Chairman of Ikija Community Development Association, Mr. Oladipupo Taofeek, described it as a “game changer,” stressing that it would save residents from spending scarce resources on water vendors and commercial laundry services.
Launched under the company’s Life’s Good Initiative, the project is expected to significantly reduce household expenses, improve hygiene, and free up time for income-generating activities. The borehole, powered by renewable energy, guarantees 24-hour access to potable water at no cost, while the mobile laundry cabin equipped with energy-efficient washing machines and dryers operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, Monday through Saturday, providing free services that ease the financial strain of basic chores.
With advanced filtration technology for safe drinking water and facilities that allow multiple users to access services at once, the initiative directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 3 on health and well-being.
LG Electronics pledged to expand similar projects nationwide in partnership with local authorities, ensuring more communities benefit from cost saving, sustainable solutions.
The inauguration, attended by government officials, community leaders, and residents, was widely welcomed as a boost to both living standards and household economies in Abeokuta.
